DEACON MINISTRY

Wabash Church's Deacons' Ministry carries on the biblical tradition of caring for those within the church who are widowed, sick, or otherwise in need.  As written in Acts Chapter 6, " At the time, the number of the disciples was greatly increasing. A complaint arose from the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews because the Grecian widows were being neglected in the daily ministry. The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, 'It's not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables. Therefore brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom. Then we can appoint those men over this business, and we apostles will continue to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.' ” (Acts 6:1-4).

The Deacons' Ministry is staffed by 14 church members, each member serving a minimum 3 year term. Our duties include coordinating for meals and providing cards and flowers for those recovering from illness, medical procedures, or grief; staffing and facilitating funeral receptions at the church; providing emergency funds or groceries for those in financial need; offering "helping hands" to those who need assistance in completing tasks at their homes or daily lives; and above all serving with love.

Every Fall, The Deacons' Ministry serves the congregation by hosting the Harvest Festival, filled with lots of food, fun, and fellowship.  As part of the fall festival, the Deacons host a silent auction, the proceeds from which go directly to the Deacons' Fund as well as Plateau Outreach Ministries.
